Batting bowling games

But the batting? Not so much. In all fairness, anyone can have an off day, and the bowling group had a rare one at Wanderers. At Wanderers, India again won the toss at Wanderers but this time neither the batting nor the bowling could make it count.

Instead, they folded for in the first innings. Pulling back the game from there was always going to be difficult, though not impossible. But the Indian batting fell predictably short there as well. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were involved in a run stand but neither of them went on to score a hundred and anchor another thwarting partnership.

And then Rishabh Pant went for that wild heave against Kagiso Rabada in a phase where four wickets were lost within 29 runs before Shardul Thakur scored a ball 28 to take India past Test matches are often won early in the day and at the Wanderers, India lost the edge in two morning sessions—on Day 3 and Day 1 when Mayank Agarwal, Pujara and Rahane were dismissed by lunch, leaving KL Rahul the task of marshalling the innings. That was a difference in the first game—we had Rahul who went on to get a hundred for us and we ended up on the winning side.

Second game, they had someone Dean Elgar who ended up on 96 at the end of the game and they ended up on the winning side, so it really shows you the importance of, on these kinds of wickets especially, one of your batsmen going on and making a big score. The aim of this game is to get rid of all the balls in your hoop one by one by moving them to another team's hoop. Players must carry the ball and place it inside the other team's hoop no throwing or rolling the ball.

Set up in 2's with 1 bat and ball. Player B must stand opposite to player A, so that they can see the end of the bat when the batters arm is fully outstretched. The aim of the game is for player A to hit the ball into space, and both players race to retrieve the ball first. Player B is in charge of the drill. On hearing this call player A self feeds the ball and hits it safely into space.

Whoever reaches the ball first is the next player to hit the ball. If you get to the ball 3 times in a row you win a point. In this game the batter tries to score as many rounders as they can by hitting the ball through the area so it either flies over or rolls through the area out the end or either side.

When the ball is caught the catching fielder becomes the bowler the bowler becomes the batter and the batter becomes a fielder. Set up: Pitch marked out in the same shape as a normal rounders pitch with cones 6m apart.

Split players into two small teams no more than 5v5. The batter can hit the ball with any part of their body. Once the batter has hit the ball they then run around the 4 bases. They can stop at any base. The fielders then field the ball into the bowler to stop the batter from running on. Gradually more rules are introduced once the principles of play have been learned. Set up a pitch using cones that is roughly the same size as a netball court 30m x 15m and divide your players into two equal teams.

Players can run in all areas of the pitch but they are not allowed to run with the ball. Players must try to get the ball to a player in the shooting circle for them to score a point. Fielding team has 1 player by each post and back stop with one fielder standing in the field beyond the 1st post.

Players stand in teams behind their cone, with a ball each. When the coach says 'Go' each player rolls their ball out diagonally, through the cones nearest their starting position. After rolling out their own ball along the ground players must sprint out and collect the ball thrown by the other side.

As soon as they have collected the ball they must sprint back with the ball in hand past the starting cone. The coach decides which player makes it back first and awards their team one point. Player self hits the ball between the 1st and 2nd post cones all fielders have to remain on the out field until the ball is hit. The batter has to try and run around 1st post and back to the batting cone to score a rounder. The fielders are trying to score a point by touching the batting cone with the ball before the batter does.

Set up : Split players into two teams no more than 5v5 - set up several mini-games if necessary. Pitch marked out with 2 goals. Size will depend upon your players' ability and numbers in the group but 20m by 10m is a good starting point.

The Game: This is an invasion game and the aim is to score a goal by rolling the ball through the oppositions goal. Rules: Roll only to score. Cannot move with the ball, defending team must be a metre away from the player with the ball. If the ball hits an attacking players' foot in open play the ball is given to the defending team. If the ball hits your team's foot from an attempt at goal then a penalty is awarded.

The penalty is taken from behind the half way line and only one player can defend it from the corner of the pitch. On the coach's call of "GO" the attacker rolls the ball and the defender can run across to defend the shot.
